PM meets Operational Director of ICRC
The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, today, on Sunday, received the Director of Operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) in Geneva, Martin Schild, who is currently visiting Yemen.
The meeting, which was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers for Security and Defense Affairs Lieutenant-General Jalal Al-Rowaishan, Services and Development Dr. Hussein Makbouli and the National Vision Mahmoud Al-Junaid, discussed a number of topics related to the ICRC’s activities and humanitarian projects in various fields and its future directions, as well as ways to enhance its role in the field of prisoner exchange and support the interest of the Rehabilitation and repair.
The meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Abdul-Raqib Al-Shurmani, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for the International Relations Sector, Yahya Al-Hadi, and the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Yemen, Katrina Ritz, discussed the priorities of humanitarian support during the current period in a number of fields, especially public health, population and education.
The meeting touched on the prisoners’ file in light of the positive effort of the International Committee of the Red Cross in this aspect, which enjoys the attention and follow-up of the revolutionary leadership, the Supreme Political Council and the government, in addition to its humanitarian contribution to the illegal immigration file.
Dr..Bin Habtoor welcomed the visit of the international official, explaining that the humanitarian activities of the ICRC during this period and the ones before are appreciated and grateful to the Yemeni people.
He pointed out that the aggression countries are using their material, diplomatic and media capabilities to continue the war on Yemen and impoverish its people through its suffocating siege, plundering the wealth of the Yemeni people from oil derivatives, and using their revenues in this 8-year war.
Meanwhile, the Director of ICRC operations in Geneva stressed that Yemen is a priority for the International Red Cross and its humanitarian projects at the global level.
He explained that the ICRC will implement new projects within the framework of its contribution to the UN and international humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people as a result of the war, stressing the committee’s commitment to continue its activity and expand its size during the coming period.
