UNICEF: Children in Gaza are seeing things no child should see, killed children there exceed all those killed globally
The number of children killed in the war in Gaza has now exceeded the total number of children killed due to conflicts globally all of last year, UNICEF said on its wepsite.
Before violence escalated on 7 October, the State of Palestine was already facing a complex and challenging humanitarian situation with 1.1 million children in need of humanitarian aid – accounting for approximately half the child population.
The UNICEF went on to say that Children are seeing things no child should see – the destruction of their homes and violence towards the people they love most. No place is safe for children in conflict zones.
UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Adele Khodr has said that Gaza is the world’s “most dangerous place for children”.
“Scores of children are reportedly being killed and injured on a daily basis. Entire neighborhoods, where children used to play and go to school have been turned into stacks of rubble, with no life in them,” Khodr said.
