The Gaza Strip’s man-made famine, officially declared by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), is set to leave devastating, multi-generational repercussions.

Over 500,000 Palestinians face extreme starvation, with at least 132,000 children under five at risk of acute malnutrition, according to the IPC.

Experts warn that the biological and societal effects of prolonged famine, cited by WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher, and the World Peace Foundation’s Alex de Waal, will persist for generations, compromising health, cognitive development, and social cohesion.

Humanitarian organizations are urging immediate international intervention to prevent irreversible damage to Gaza’s children and society at large.
