Entisaf Organization Condemns Security Council’s Double Standards and Demands it Assume its Responsibilities Towards the Yemeni People
The Entisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights condemns the recent statements of the UN Security Council regarding Yemen, which reveal a contradiction between calls for respect for Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, and the rights of its people, and the Council’s continued failure to take effective measures to protect civilians and end the violations suffered by the Yemeni people throughout the years of aggression and blockade.
The organization stressed that the Security Council, as the international body responsible for maintaining international peace and security, is obligated to uphold the UN Charter and the principles of international humanitarian law and human rights, and to refrain from applying double standards or acting according to political considerations and the interests of powerful states when dealing with the rights of peoples.
The organization pointed out that the continued attacks and violations against civilians in Yemen, and the thousands of victims, especially women and children, resulting from the years of aggression, along with the destruction of civilian infrastructure and the restrictions on access to aid and basic necessities, place the international community before a legal and moral responsibility that cannot be fulfilled by statements and condemnations alone.
The organization asserted that talk of protecting Yemen’s sovereignty and independence is meaningless without practical measures to ensure respect for the country’s sovereignty, protect civilians, halt violations, and guarantee the unimpeded delivery of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid to those in need.
The organization also expressed its condemnation of the Security Council’s failure to implement its resolutions and enforce compliance when it comes to protecting civilians and halting grave violations. It emphasized that the selective application of international resolutions has contributed to weakening the international justice system and undermining public trust in UN institutions.
The Entisaf Organization stressed that women and children are the most affected by the ongoing humanitarian crises, the blockade, and the attacks, and that any serious international action must prioritize the protection of civilians and the rights of the most vulnerable groups, setting aside political considerations.
The organization called upon the Security Council, the United Nations, and all relevant international bodies to:
Assume their legal and moral responsibilities towards civilians in Yemen.
Take practical and binding measures to protect women, children, and civilians from violations. – Guarantee respect for Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity in accordance with the UN Charter.
Launch independent and transparent investigations into violations and crimes committed against civilians and civilian infrastructure, and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
Lift restrictions that impede the delivery of humanitarian aid, medicine, food, and basic necessities to civilians.
End double standards in addressing humanitarian issues and the rights of peoples.
Enable international human rights mechanisms to document violations in Yemen independently and transparently.
Prioritize the protection of children and women and guarantee their rights in accordance with international agreements and conventions.
The organization stressed that security and peace cannot be achieved through selective resolutions or political statements, but rather through respect for human rights and the application of international law to all without exception. It emphasized that continued impunity only prolongs the suffering of civilians and undermines the chances of achieving a just and lasting peace.
The Entisaf Organization called upon the international community, UN and humanitarian organizations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and international human rights organizations to continue documenting the violations committed against civilians in Yemen, to amplify the voices of the victims, and to work to guarantee their rights, ensure justice for them, and hold those responsible for the violations accountable in accordance with international law.
