Entisaf Organization: Al-Jawf Prison Attack a Violation of International Humanitarian Law – Monday, September 7, 2026

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights condemned the Saudi-led coalition’s attack on the central prison in Al-Hazm city, Al-Jawf Governorate, which resulted in the death and injury of 14 inmates, including a woman and a child, according to initial reports.

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Entisaf considered this attack a violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the fundamental principles concerning the protection of civilians and the distinction between civilian objects and military objectives. The organization also noted that Common Article 3 of the four Geneva Conventions prohibits such attacks.

Entisaf denounced the killing of women and children, emphasizing that the protection of women and children is not a marginal issue but a legal and humanitarian obligation under international law.

The organization demanded that all those responsible for issuing and carrying out the orders related to the bombing be identified and held accountable under international law, ensuring that perpetrators of grave violations do not escape punishment.

The statement called on the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and relevant international organizations to uphold their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, to refrain from treating these incidents as mere statistics or fleeting events, and to work to prevent the recurrence of attacks targeting Yemenis.

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights emphasized that protecting civilian lives is non-negotiable and that prisons should not be turned into killing fields. The organization reiterated its commitment to the victims’ right to truth, justice, redress, and reparation.
