Entesaf Condemns the Saudi Escalation and Targeting of Civilians and Civilian Objects in Ibb, Saada, and Taiz

Entesaf Organization for Women and Child Rights strongly condemns the escalation of the Saudi aggression against several Yemeni governorates, which in recent hours included airstrikes targeting the governorates of Ibb, Saada, and Taiz. Saudi warplanes targeted Al-Dalil Bridge in Al-Makha-dir District, Ibb Governorate, carried out three airstrikes on Qatabir District in Saada Governorate, and launched four airstrikes on the Mawiyah junction in Al-Taiziyah District, Taiz Governorate, in addition to an airstrike targeting a civilian’s home in Al-Kahl village in the same district, causing material damage.

Entesaf Organization for Women and Child Rights stresses that the continued airstrikes and targeting of civilian objects, facilities, and homes constitute grave violations of the rules and principles of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality. Such attacks contradict international rules guaranteeing the protection of civilians and civilian objects and also constitute violations of the right to life and physical integrity protected under international human rights law.

The organization warns of the continued Saudi aggression and blockade imposed on the Yemeni people for 12 years, and the resulting and ongoing threats to civilian lives, worsening humanitarian and living conditions, and damage to property, civilian facilities, and infrastructure, particularly vital civilian objects on which communities depend in their daily lives.

The organization calls on the international community, the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, work to end the Saudi aggression and blockade, ensure the protection of civilians and civilian objects, and not ignore violations committed against the Yemeni people. It further calls for independent and transparent investigations into the crimes and violations, and for those responsible to be held accountable in accordance with international law, ensuring justice for victims and effective reparations.

Entesaf also renews its call for the immediate protection of the Yemeni people, particularly women and children, and for ensuring their safety and preventing their exposure to attacks. It urges respect for the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and calls for serious international measures to halt attacks and the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, lift the blockade, and ensure that perpetrators of violations do not enjoy impunity.
