UN: Yemen Receives Quarter Of Million African Immigrants Annually

The United Nations confirmed on Thursday that Yemen annually receives 250,000 African migrants on their way to migrate to the Gulf countries.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) of the United Nations tweeted on “Twitter,” monitored saying “every year, more than 250,000 migrants, including youth, women, and children, leave their countries in the Horn of Africa to reach the Gulf countries in search of better opportunities to earn a living,” indicating that their arrival is fraught with danger.

In the context, observers questioned the validity of the statistics published by the United Nations as the figures were repeated years ago. They saw that the number of African immigrants far exceeds those numbers.

According to the IOM, more than 43,000 migrants are currently stranded in Yemen.

It is noteworthy that the continued influx of African refugees into Yemen compounds the deterioration of the economic and health situations amid human rights and humanitarian neglect by international organizations.

Thousands of African migrants take the western coasts of Yemen, which are under the control of armed militias funded by the Saudi-led coalition, as transit areas to the occupied areas, where they are subject to exploitation and various violations.
