Entesaf Organization in conjunction with the 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women , The United Nations does not see or hear about thousands of women victims

The 16 Days Campaign to Eliminate Violence against Women is an initiative that concludes on the day that marks International Human Rights Day (December 10).

This campaign aims to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world, and calls for global action to increase.

Awareness and to enhance advocacy for that goal and to provide opportunities to discuss challenges and solutions, but in Yemen the situation is different, as it seems that the United Nations does not see or hear about the thousands of women victims who were killed and wounded during the Saudi-American aggression against Yemen about 9 years ago, and also turns a blind eye.

About the thousands of women who were killed as a result of the Zionist occupation’s aggression against Gaza.

Entesaf Organization reported that the number of women victims of the US-Saudi aggression amounted to five thousand and 489 dead and wounded over the course of about nine years.

The organization stated in statistics issued that the number of women killed reached two thousand and 477 dead, and three thousand and 13 wounded as of December 7.

It pointed to the catastrophic and tragic conditions that Yemeni women are experiencing as a result of the aggression and siege, as rates of gender-based violence among children and women increased by 63% compared to before the aggression, and according to statistics, the crimes and violations committed by the forces of aggression in the West Coast region amounted to more than 800 crimes.

Including kidnapping and rape of women and children.

Also explained that the aggression and siege caused women to be deprived of their right to obtain health services, as hospitals and centers were targeted, diseases and epidemics spread, and malnutrition rates rose, especially among pregnant and breastfeeding women, in addition to an increase in the rate of miscarriages and fetal deformities as a result of the use of internationally banned weapons, as they suffer more of the 1.5 million pregnant and breastfeeding women suffering from malnutrition, 650,495 of them suffer from moderate malnutrition, while one woman and six newborns die every two hours due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth.

The number of women who could lose their lives during pregnancy or childbirth is estimated at Approximately 17 thousand women.

The organization indicated the worsening suffering of mothers and pregnant women, as more than 50 percent of births are performed by non-specialized persons, and about 8.1 million women and girls of childbearing age need assistance in accessing reproductive health services, including 1.3 million women who will give birth during this year, and among them It is expected that 195,000 of them will develop complications that require medical assistance to save their lives and the lives of their newborns, and approximately 70% of obstetric medications are not available in Yemen due to the blockade and the aggression coalition’s prevention of their entry into Yemen.

The Entesaf Organization explained that Yemeni women have been living and facing many difficulties for more than 9 years, as they are not provided with the simplest means of decent life and protection, as there are about 12.5 million women in need of life-saving services in reproductive health and protection.

The  organization reported that Yemeni women have been targeted over the past 9 years, whether directly or indirectly. They face many risks, as women account for about half of the 4.3 million displaced people, 27 percent of whom are under 18 years of age, which increases their chances of being exposed to violence.

Displaced women and girls suffer most from the lack of privacy, threats to their safety, and lack of access to basic services, which makes them more vulnerable and vulnerable to violence and abuse. The news notes that one out of every three displaced families is headed by women, and the girls who support 21 percent of these families are under 18 years old.

With regard to education, women were deprived of this right as a result of the aggression’s targeting of educational facilities, the economic blockade, and the failure to pay salaries, which led to the inability of some families to provide basic educational needs, such as breakfast. 31% of Yemeni girls became outside the scope of education, and the high rate of illiteracy among women increases.

More than 60% in some governorates in Yemen, such as Hodeidah, where the number of illiterate men and women reaches more than 1.2 million, 62% of whom are female. 53 literacy and adult education centers and 19 basic and women’s training centers were damaged, where more than 3,168 were damaged of those, 84% are women.

Furthermore, it emphasized that the daily crimes, attacks, and violations committed by the coalition against the Yemeni people, especially children and women , are a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which criminalizes targeting innocent civilians.

The organization called for the formation of an international investigation committee to look into the crimes committed by the aggression forces against unarmed civilians.
