Statement by the #Entesaf Organization condemning the Israeli enemy’s attack and piracy on the Madeleine ship and the arrest of its crew
We condemn and denounce in the strongest terms the continued series of crimes committed by the Zionist Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and its attempts to impose a comprehensive blockade on all sources of life, including food, water, and medicine, using various means. One of these was the Israeli enemy’s blatant attack on the Madeleine ship belonging to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and the arrest of its crew to prevent them from reaching the Gaza Strip. The Madeleine ship was carrying 12 human rights activists on a purely humanitarian mission to break the long-standing blockade of the Gaza Strip and deliver aid to the people.
The interception of the Madeleine at sea, its detention, the arrest of its crew, and the confiscation of its cargo constitute piracy at sea, as the ship was sailing in international waters toward the Gaza Strip. It also constitutes a clear violation of the Law of the Sea Convention. According to Article 101 of the Law of the Sea Convention, all vessels at sea enjoy freedom of navigation and may not be intercepted. Furthermore, the detention of civilian activists is arbitrary detention, amounting to kidnapping. According to Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, this detention constitutes a violation of human rights and is considered arbitrary detention. Among the detained activists are parliamentarians and diplomats, and their detention constitutes a violation of parliamentary and diplomatic immunity and a breach of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Their detention by Israel violates the principle of parliamentary sovereignty and the diplomatic immunity of states.
We at Intisaf Organization hold the Zionist Israeli occupation forces fully responsible for the attack on the ship and the safety of its crew, who were carrying a humanitarian message to the civilians under siege in Gaza.
We call on the international community, the United Nations, the Security Council, and Arab and Islamic countries to pressure the enemy and release the ship Madeleine and its international crew. The shameful silence and evasion of their duties by states and international and human rights organizations encourages the Zionist Israeli occupation to continue committing further war crimes against civilians in the Palestinian territories.
We renew our appeal to the international community, particularly the International Court of Justice, to open an investigation, hold criminals accountable, and punish all those proven to be involved in these crimes. We call on human rights and humanitarian organizations, all Muslim and Arab countries, and honorable and free people around the world to assume their moral and humanitarian responsibilities in supporting the oppressed Palestinian people, condemning the horrific crimes committed by the Zionist Israeli occupation, and pressuring the United Nations, specifically the Security Council, to fulfill their legal and moral duty to protect civilians and halt this deliberate aggression.
