UN Appeals To Donors, Humanitarian Support For Yemen Critical

The UN Resident Coordinator, William David Grisley, urged donor countries to increase their support for Yemen’s assistance programs and to expedite the disbursement of pledges and fulfill the commitments made at the recent pledging conference for Yemen.

“The support will help humanitarian workers in Yemen provide tangible peace benefits to those in need,” Grisley said. He indicated that the scope of aid access will be expanded to previously inaccessible areas, as a result of the truce between the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen.

Grisley noted that the parties’ agreement to open roads in Taiz and other Yemen governorates will help facilitate civilian and commercial movements and enhance humanitarian access.

The UN official had welcomed the much-needed truce between the Saudi- led coalition and Yemen and urged all parties to abide by and respect it and take the necessary measures to ensure its successful implementation.

Grisley also welcomed the commitment to allow the passage of fuel ships to the ports of Hodeidah, saying that these ports are important entry points for fuel, food and other essential commodities to Yemen.

“The resumption of some commercial flights to and from Sana’a International Airport is welcome news by many Yemenis, including those who have been waiting for the opportunity to receive medical treatment or education abroad and families who have been hoping to be reunited during month of Ramadan,” Grisley added.
