Winter adds a new chapter to the tragedy of children in Gaza
As winter’s chill intensifies in the Gaza Strip, it’s no longer just the wind that pierces the tattered tents, but also the cries of children whose fragile bodies are unable to withstand the frost.
In displacement camps lacking the most basic necessities, the bitter cold becomes a deadly threat, preying on infants and children above all others, adding a new chapter to the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in the Strip under the weight of war and siege.
The government media office in the Gaza Strip announced on Sunday that the death toll from the extreme cold in displacement camps had risen to 21, including 18 children, as a result of the two-year Israeli offensive.
This came in a statement issued by the office, a day after the death of one-week-old Mahmoud al-Aqra, who succumbed to the severe cold, shivering before passing away at al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central Gaza Strip, according to his father, Adnan al-Aqra.
