Statement of Condemnation

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights condemns the attack on the correctional facility in Al-Jawf Governorate, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of inmates and visitors. The organization calls for an international investigation and accountability for those responsible.

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights condemns the horrific attack by the Saudi-led aggression on Al-Hazm Correctional Facility in Al-Jawf Governorate. According to initial reports, the attack resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries among inmates and visitors, including a woman visiting her husband and a child.

The Entisaf Organization considers this attack a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the fundamental principles relating to the protection of civilians, the distinction between civilian objects and military objectives, and proportionality. Furthermore, Common Article 3 of the four Geneva Conventions prohibits such attacks.

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights strongly condemns the targeting of women and children as victims of this crime. It emphasizes that the protection of women and children is not a marginal issue, but a legal and humanitarian obligation under international law. The Entisaf Organization demands an immediate, independent, impartial, transparent, and thorough investigation into the bombing incident, under the supervision of an independent international body, to determine the nature of the target, the means and weapons used, the circumstances preceding the attack, and the extent to which necessary precautions were taken to protect civilians.

The organization also demands the identification of all those responsible for issuing and carrying out the orders related to the bombing, holding all those found responsible accountable under international law, and ensuring that perpetrators of grave violations do not escape punishment.

The organization calls upon the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and relevant international organizations to uphold their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, to not treat these incidents as mere statistics or isolated events, and to work to prevent the recurrence of attacks targeting Yemenis.

The organization demands that this incident be included in the documentation and investigation files related to violations committed in Yemen during the 12 years of aggression and blockade, and that the related evidence be preserved for use in any future legal proceedings or accountability mechanisms.

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights affirms that the protection of civilian lives is non-negotiable, and that correctional facilities should not be turned into killing fields.

The continued loss of civilian lives in Yemen, coupled with the ongoing impunity, poses a threat to the entire civilian protection system and sends a dangerous message that victims’ lives can be lost without investigation or punishment. This is something that the Entisaf Organization rejects, and it affirms its commitment to the victims’ right to truth, justice, redress, and reparation.
