Statement Condemning the Appalling Toll of Victims of Israeli Aggression in the Gaza Strip and the Rising Number of Casualties: 73,795 Killed and 174,869 Injured

In a horrific and non-final toll of victims of the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, and as efforts to recover the bodies of victims from beneath the rubble and from areas that have become accessible following the ceasefire continue, the toll resulting from the Israeli occupation’s massacres is expected to exceed the initial figures.

Current estimates indicate that more than 73,795 people have been killed and 174,869 injured, with these numbers continuing to rise. These alarming and incomplete figures place a significant responsibility on the international community to ensure accountability and justice.

These crimes and mass massacres constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which requires the protection of civilians and civilian objects. The targeting of innocent civilians indicates the deliberate violation by the Israeli occupation forces of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, foremost among them the principles of distinction between combatants and civilians, proportionality, and humanity. Such grave violations may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, and represent a continuation of grave crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in Palestine over many years.

We hold the Israeli occupation forces fully responsible for all crimes targeting civilians and infrastructure, and we call for an immediate and impartial international investigation to ensure criminal accountability for those responsible for these violations, which may constitute crimes against humanity and whose severity becomes increasingly evident with the continued recovery of victims.

In this context, we call upon the United Nations, the United Nations Security Council, and Muslim-majority states to assume their historic responsibility and take immediate action to provide the necessary support to relief and rescue teams to recover all victims and identify them; to immediately initiate comprehensive reconstruction plans; to provide urgent humanitarian assistance; and, most importantly, to take decisive measures to bring the occupation to a permanent end in order to prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
