Entesaf Organization for Women and Child Rights strongly condemns the continued escalation of the Saudi aggression against several Yemeni governorates. Over the past hours, the escalation has included a series of airstrikes and artillery shelling, targeting civilian objects and service facilities.
The Organization condemns the crime that resulted in the killing of a young girl by a mortar shell fired by Saudi-allied forces at Al-Talilah village in Maqbanah District, Taiz Governorate. Entesaf considers the killing of children as a result of bombardment a grave violation of children’s rights that requires investigation and accountability. Nearly 10,000 children have been killed or injured over the 12 years of aggression against Yemen.
Saudi aggression aircraft also targeted Al-Shaheed School in Al-Areen village, Al-Urouq area, Haifan District, Taiz Governorate. They also carried out intensive airstrikes on the districts of Sahar, Majz, Al-Dhahir, and Al-Safra in Saada Governorate, as well as Sufyan District in Amran Governorate. Telecommunications networks were targeted in Al-Nukhaila areas of Al-Durayhimi District and Al-Luhayyah District in Al Hudaydah Governorate. In addition, a civilian vehicle was targeted in Mustaba District, Hajjah Governorate.
Sahar District in Saada Governorate witnessed a significant escalation, with 17 airstrikes carried out since dawn today, amid continued aerial and artillery bombardment that threatens the lives of civilians and their property.
The Organization stresses that targeting schools, civilian facilities, and telecommunications networks constitutes a serious violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, which prohibit attacks against civilians and civilian objects. Targeting educational facilities also threatens children’s right to education and their safety, further increasing the risks they face amid the continued aggression and blockade.
Entesaf Organization warns of the continued Saudi aggression and the blockade imposed on the Yemeni people for 12 years, and the resulting direct threats to civilian lives, destruction of infrastructure and essential services, and serious humanitarian, psychological, and social consequences, particularly for women, children, and the most vulnerable groups. The total number of Saudi aggression airstrikes since the beginning of the escalation has reached 1,158 airstrikes.
Entesaf Organization calls for ensuring accountability for grave violations of international humanitarian law and preventing perpetrators from enjoying impunity. It also calls for the protection of civilians and civilian objects and strict adherence to the principles of distinction and proportionality.
The Organization further calls on the United Nations and relevant international human rights bodies to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities toward the suffering of civilians in Yemen, work to document and investigate these violations, and take the necessary legal measures to ensure justice for victims and provide them with appropriate remedies.
Entesaf Organization for Women and Child Rights reiterates that targeting children, schools, and civilian facilities, and exposing the lives of children and civilians to danger, are crimes that must not go without accountability. Protecting civilians, particularly women and children, is a legal and humanitarian obligation that must not be disregarded.
