Entesaf Organization Condemns Saudi Escalation and Targeting of Civilians and Civilian Objects in Saada and Taiz
Entesaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights strongly condemns the Saudi escalation against several Yemeni governorates, which over the past hours has involved missile and artillery shelling, airstrikes, and gunfire targeting residential areas, populated villages, and civilian objects in the governorates of Saada and Taiz.
In Taiz Governorate, Saudi-led airstrikes targeted Same’ District, injuring a woman. Another woman was injured as a result of artillery shelling by Saudi-led forces and their affiliated fighters against the Al-Rubai’i Al-Rawd area in Al-Ta’ziyah District. An airstrike also targeted the eastern entrance of Al-Qasr Roundabout Road in Salh District.
In Saada Governorate, a citizen and an African migrant were injured by Saudi fire in the areas of Mahallah and Al-Qahr Hatab in Munabbih District. Another citizen was injured in the Al-Habanah area of Razih District. This coincided with missile and artillery shelling targeting border villages and populated areas in the districts of Al-Dhahir, Razih, and Ghamr, in addition to missile attacks targeting telecommunications networks in the districts of Saqin and Haydan.
Entesaf Organization for Women and Children’s Rights affirms that the continued airstrikes, artillery and missile shelling, and targeting of residential areas, populated villages, and civilian and service facilities constitute grave violations of the rules and principles of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality. Such acts contradict international rules guaranteeing the protection of civilians and civilian objects and constitute violations of the right to life and physical integrity protected under international human rights law.
The Organization warns of the continued Saudi aggression and siege imposed on the Yemeni people and the resulting ongoing threats to the lives of civilians, worsening humanitarian and living conditions, and damage to civilian property, facilities, and infrastructure. This is particularly concerning with regard to attacks on essential service facilities on which civilians depend in their daily lives, resulting in humanitarian, psychological, and social consequences, especially for women, children, and the most vulnerable groups.
The Organization calls on the international community, the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, work to end the Saudi aggression and siege, ensure the protection of civilians and civilian objects, and refrain from ignoring violations committed against the Yemeni people. It also calls for independent and transparent investigations into the crimes and violations, accountability for those responsible in accordance with international law, and measures to ensure redress for victims and reparation for the harm suffered.
Entesaf Organization further renews its call for the immediate protection of the Yemeni people, particularly women and children, ensuring their safety and preventing their exposure to attacks. It calls for respect for the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and for serious international measures to halt attacks and the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, lift the siege, and ensure that perpetrators of violations do not enjoy impunity.
