Entisaf Organization Condemns Attacks on Schools and Their Vicinity in Taiz and Saada, Stating: Bombing Educational Facilities Violates Children’s Rights to Life and Education

Sanaa – October 26, 2026

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Child Rights condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the airstrikes launched by the Saudi-led coalition’s air forces on civilian areas in the governorates of Taiz and Saada. These attacks struck a mosque and a school in the Al-Mashawil area of Maqbanah District, resulting in the injury of a young girl. Additionally, an airstrike near a school in the Nashur area of As-Safra District, Saada Governorate, left one child and two female students injured—a situation that highlights the grave danger children face within their educational environments. The organization also condemns an attack on an auto-repair workshop in the Al-Shaqira area of Al-Wazi’iyah District, which resulted in the deaths of civilians, as well as ongoing gunfire directed at civilians in the border district of Shada, which led to the death of another individual.

The organization asserts that targeting schools or conducting airstrikes in their vicinity is not an isolated incident that can be justified; rather, it is a highly dangerous assault that imperils the lives of children and students, undermines their fundamental rights to education and safety, and transforms schools—which should be sanctuaries for learning and protection—into places where children are haunted by fear instead of enjoying security and stability. Furthermore, the targeting of a school and a mosque in Taiz, occurring simultaneously with an airstrike near a school in Saada, raises serious concerns regarding the safety of civilian infrastructure and the protection of students and children. This necessitates a rigorous and independent investigation into the circumstances of these incidents to establish accountability. Entisaf emphasizes that international humanitarian law obliges the aggressor to adhere to the principles of distinction and proportionality, and prohibits attacks directed against civilians and civilian objects. Furthermore, children are entitled to special protection under the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention, and the 1977 Additional Protocol I. The organization asserts that the deliberate targeting of a civilian school—or launching an attack on one while aware of its civilian nature—may constitute a war crime, warranting accountability under international law, depending on the circumstances of the attack and the available evidence.

The organization holds those responsible for these attacks accountable for the resulting casualties and damage. It demands an immediate cessation of attacks on schools, mosques, residential areas, and civilian infrastructure; the protection of children, students, and educational staff; the initiation of independent and transparent investigations into these incidents; the prosecution of all those found responsible for violations of international humanitarian law; the assurance of the victims’ right to redress and reparation; and an end to impunity for the perpetrators of these crimes.

The organization calls upon the United Nations and international human rights and child-welfare organizations to take urgent action to monitor and document these violations, and to implement concrete measures to protect the children of Yemen from the dangers of such attacks. It urges them to move beyond mere statements of concern and condemnation—which neither halt the bloodshed nor restore the students’ right to learn in safety. Entesaf asserts that the blood of children is not merely a statistic for news reports. Every child has an inherent human right—which must never be violated—to go to school and return home safely; this is not a favor granted by anyone. The continued bombardment of schools and their surrounding areas threatens the lives of children and the future of an entire generation. This situation demands a responsible international stance that prioritizes the protection of civilians and children above all else.
