Entisaf Organization Condemns the Targeting of the Chemico Factory and Warns of an Environmental Disaster Threatening the Lives of Civilians and the Livelihoods of Hundreds of Families

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Child Rights condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the targeting of the Chemico paint and chemical factory by Saudi-led coalition aircraft. The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in the Al-Rabiei area of Taiz Governorate’s Al-Ta’iziyah District. The strike ignited massive fires, requiring ongoing efforts by civil defense teams to bring them under control. There are grave concerns regarding serious environmental and health repercussions, as the factory contained large quantities of chemicals, paints, and highly flammable substances. This poses a risk of air and environmental pollution, endangering the lives and safety of local residents—particularly women, children, and the elderly—while also inflicting severe economic and humanitarian harm on approximately 500 workers and their families, whose livelihoods are now threatened amidst an already deteriorating humanitarian situation.

The organization emphasizes that the danger of targeting industrial facilities containing chemical substances extends beyond immediate material losses. It encompasses the potential for the leakage of hazardous materials and the spread of pollutants, which could lead to long-term health and environmental damage. Such an act violates the fundamental rights to life, health, and a safe environment, further compounding the suffering of the civilian population. It also emphasizes the urgent need to address the risks resulting from the fire, assess environmental damage, and take necessary measures to prevent the spread of pollutants. This includes protecting the local population, workers, and rescue teams, while providing medical care to those injured—all in an independent and transparent manner.

The organization points out that international humanitarian law obliges the Saudi aggressor to adhere to the principles of distinction and proportionality.

It calls for a serious and transparent investigation into the targeting of the factory, the determination of responsibility, and the holding of the Saudi aggressor accountable for all violations of international law committed over the past 12 years. It further demands that the Saudi-led aggression not be allowed to escape accountability, and that necessary steps be taken to address environmental, health, and economic damages, as well as to provide reparations to those affected.

Entisaf Organization holds the Saudi-led aggression responsible for all damages resulting from this attack. It urges relevant authorities, as well as humanitarian and environmental organizations, to take urgent action to assess the level of pollution and potential risks, secure the area surrounding the factory, protect families living in the vicinity, ensure the safety of civil defense teams, and provide support to the affected workers and their families. Furthermore, the organization reiterates its call to the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations—particularly those focused on the environment and health—to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities. It urges them not to dismiss the targeting of civilian facilities and citizens’ livelihoods as mere incidental damage, but rather to work toward halting these violations and ensuring the protection of civilians and their fundamental rights.
