SCMCHA secretary-general discusses with UN resident representative humanitarian field

Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Administration and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Ibrahim al-Hamli discussed on Monday with United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen David Grisley issues related to the course of humanitarian action in Yemen.

The meeting, which included the Director of the OCHA office in Yemen, Sajjad Sajid and representative of the World Food Program in Yemen Richard Ragan, touched on the United Nations’ intervention in supporting the Executive Center for Mine Action in Hodeida to clear the liberated areas and roads, placing signs and markings for warning areas, and providing equipment and detection devices for demining workers.

The meeting reviewed the humanitarian role of the World Food Program and its contribution to alleviating suffering through coordination and cooperation with the Supreme Council to facilitate the course of humanitarian action and implement its common goals.

In the meeting, al-Hamli stressed the importance of moving from the emergency situation in providing services and assistance to implementing projects of a sustainable nature and livelihoods that directly contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens.

He stressed the need to find radical solutions for shipments of corrupt or expired materials from the source, nearing completion, or which were damaged as a result of poor transportation and storage, and to compensate the beneficiary families.

Al-Hamli called for quick and serious action to clear the areas of mines, cluster bombs and remnants of the aggression, especially in the city of al-Durayhimi, which is claiming the lives of civilians daily.

He pointed out the need for coordination with the Council to contribute effectively to facilitating the course of humanitarian work and for aid to reach those who deserve it.
