Entisaf Organization Condemns the Targeting of Civilian Objects and Telecommunications Networks in Taiz, Stating: Attacks on Civilians Constitute a Grave Violation of International Humanitarian Law

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Child Rights has condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the ongoing crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition against civilians and civilian objects in Taiz Governorate. Most recently, coalition aircraft targeted the village of Al-Rama in the Masfar sub-district (Uzlah) of Al-Masrakh District, as well as the Al-Majashah area in Maqbanah District. These strikes resulted in a civilian sustaining serious injuries in the village of Al-Rama, while in the Al-Majashah area, one civilian was killed and five others—including a child and a woman—were wounded following the bombing of a telecommunications network.

The organization emphasized that targeting civilians, civilian infrastructure, and telecommunications networks—thereby endangering the lives of the population—constitutes a grave violation of the rules of international humanitarian law. Such laws mandate the protection of civilians and civilian objects and strictly prohibit attacks against them. Furthermore, these actions represent an assault on the right to life, physical integrity, and personal safety—rights guaranteed under international conventions and charters, most notably the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and its Additional Protocol I of 1977.

The organization further noted that targeting civilian infrastructure—particularly telecommunications networks, upon which the population relies for communication, requesting emergency medical assistance, seeking relief, and responding to crises—exacerbates the humanitarian risks threatening civilian lives. It compounds the suffering of women, children, and families, while undermining the essential foundations of life and basic services. The organization held the Saudi adversary responsible for the repercussions of these attacks, calling upon the United Nations, as well as international and human rights organizations, to take urgent action to condemn these violations. It urged them to work toward ensuring the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, to initiate an independent and transparent international investigation into the crimes committed against the Yemeni people, and to hold those responsible accountable, ensuring they do not escape justice.

The organization concluded its statement by emphasizing that the continued targeting of civilians and civilian objects represents a blatant disregard for the rules of international humanitarian law. It further noted that international silence regarding these crimes is no longer merely a failure to protect victims; rather, it contributes to entrenching a culture of impunity—a situation that necessitates serious international action to halt these violations and secure justice for the victims.
