Statement of Condemnation by the Entisaf Organization for Women and Child Rights Regarding the Saudi-led Coalition’s Massacre of Farmers and First Responders in Sahar District, Saada Governorate

“The blood of children, women, and first responders in Al-Talh stands as a new, indelible stain upon the international community and the shameful silence of the United Nations.”

The Entisaf Organization for Women and Child Rights condemns the horrific massacre committed by the Saudi-led coalition’s air forces against innocent civilians in the city of Al-Talh, located in the Sahar District of Saada Governorate. The strikes targeted families and farmers while they were working on their land, followed by an even more heinous and bloody act: the deliberate and systematic targeting of medical personnel and first responders as they attempted to provide aid to the wounded and recover victims.

These successive, criminal airstrikes—which repeatedly targeted the scene of the incident, preventing rescue teams from carrying out their humanitarian duties—have resulted, according to an initial toll, in the deaths of innocent individuals—including children and women, whose bodies were torn to pieces—as well as numerous injuries and missing persons. This constitutes a flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian norms and charters, most notably the Geneva Conventions and the principles of international humanitarian law, which mandate the protection of civilians and civilian objects, and strictly prohibit the targeting of medical and emergency personnel under any circumstances. The organization condemns and denounces this heinous crime in the strongest possible terms. It asserts that this horrific massacre reflects the criminal and bloodthirsty nature of the aggression, as well as the deliberate targeting of innocent people—striking at their livelihoods and their farms. This constitutes a full-fledged war crime; the targeting of first responders, the blocking of rescue teams, and the prevention of the recovery of human remains or the provision of aid to the wounded represent a war crime, a crime against humanity, and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees the protection of medical and humanitarian personnel.

We hold the coalition states—foremost among them the Saudi regime—fully legally and morally responsible for this massacre, as well as for all previous crimes committed against the Yemeni people, particularly children and women, over the course of 12 years of aggression.

We express our profound regret and strong condemnation regarding the continued, shameful silence and the complicity of the international community and the United Nations. This has emboldened the forces of aggression to persist in committing further massacres against Yemeni civilians, in the complete absence of any international or humanitarian deterrent.

We call upon the United Nations, the Security Council, and all international and humanitarian organizations to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities. We urge the formation of an independent and impartial international commission of inquiry to investigate this massacre—along with all other massacres committed against the Yemeni people—and to ensure that all perpetrators and their commanders are held accountable before international criminal courts.
