Humanitarian Affairs Council: Over 22,000 families affected by torrential rains

Over 22,000 families were affected by the torrential rains that occurred in a number of provinces from March to May 2023.

The Supreme Council for the Management a,Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, of which the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) received a copy, stated that the torrential rains led to the killing and injury of more than 18 people, most of whom were displaced, and affected 22,306 families in 15 provinces.

The report indicated that the number of damaged houses reached 21,378, of which 8,339 were completely damaged, 13,34 were partially damaged, and 51 were dilapidated.

It reported that 159 agricultural lands were damaged, 82 rockslides and road blocks occurred, 28 collapses of dams, wells and water networks, and 22 damage to livestock was recorded.

The council affirmed that the damage caused by the torrents in the camps for the displaced, the infrastructure, the citizens’ houses and their farms doubled the human suffering experienced by the Yemeni people in light of the worst humanitarian crisis as a result of the aggression and the blockade.

It pointed out that the damage calls for organizations operating in Yemen to play their humanitarian and relief role, and to quickly intervene urgently to provide relief to those affected and provide their basic needs of shelter, food, shelter, and services.
