Statement of Condemnation Regarding the Crimes of the Saudi-American Aggression Coalition’s Mercenaries Against Children and Civilians in Taiz Governorate

We condemn in the strongest terms the continued crimes and attacks perpetrated by the mercenaries of the Saudi-American aggression coalition against the Yemeni people, through the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure. A child was killed and another injured by a mortar shell fired by the Saudi-led coalition’s mercenaries at the Al-Tabisha’a area in the Sabr Al-Mawadim district of Taiz Governorate. The shelling targeted students of the Musab Bin Omair School as they were returning home, resulting in the death of a fifth-grade student and injuries to an eighth-grade student.

Targeting children and civilians constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, which criminalizes targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. This confirms the deliberate violation by the Saudi-American aggression coalition’s mercenaries of the principles and rules of international humanitarian law, including the principles of distinction, proportionality, and the protection of civilians. These crimes are an extension of the series of war crimes and violations committed by the aggression coalition against the Yemeni people for more than eleven years.

We hold America, Saudi Arabia, their allies, and their mercenaries fully responsible for these crimes and violations against children and civilians. We demand an investigation and criminal accountability for all those proven to be involved. We also hold the United Nations and the Security Council responsible for their shameful silence and their abdication of their legal and humanitarian obligations, which has emboldened the aggressor forces and their mercenaries to continue committing further crimes against civilians and children in Yemen.
